STRAIGHT ANSWERS

THE DETAILS MATTER.

Getting started

Is the studio open, and where will it be?

We’re developing the first Sydney pilot. It isn’t open yet, and the location and opening date are still to be settled. Tell us where you would genuinely bring clients when you register; that helps us choose a location that works for you and your clients.

Who can register, and will I need qualifications and insurance?

Trainers interested in OWNSET can join the Founding Trainers list now, including those not yet coaching paid sessions. You don’t need to upload qualifications or insurance documents to register your interest. Studio onboarding will include appropriate qualification and insurance checks; the exact requirements will be explained before access begins.

Will my clients need an OWNSET membership?

No separate ongoing OWNSET gym membership is part of the core model for your clients. You book the studio for the trainer-and-client session, keeping the space arrangement simple. Client registration, induction or consent requirements may still apply and will be explained before booking.

Bookings and commercial model

What is the proposed trainer rate?

We’re currently working around A$39–A$59 per hour for the studio, depending on time and booking arrangement. The idea is simple: pay for quality training space when you’re using it, rather than carrying a fixed premises cost all week. These are indicative rates; final prices and inclusions will be confirmed before launch.

Who pays for the room, and does OWNSET take a cut of my coaching fee?

OWNSET’s charge is for use of the studio. Your coaching fee is separate and arranged by you with your client; the core model is room hire, not a share of that fee. The final booking process will explain who makes and pays for the room booking, any additional charges and how invoicing works.

Do I have to commit to fixed weekly rent or a lease?

No fixed weekly gym rent or premises lease is part of the core model. Book the space when you need it, with the studio cost tied to your bookings. A booking is for the room, so a client’s non-attendance doesn’t automatically cancel it. We’ll make cancellation and rescheduling windows clear before launch so you can build them into your own client terms.

Can I book recurring slots or back-to-back client sessions?

Regular weekly slots and consecutive client sessions are important ways trainers would use OWNSET, and we’re designing the booking approach with both in mind. The options and setup/reset timing are still being worked through. Registration doesn’t secure a permanent weekly slot or priority window.

How long can I book, and is setup or reset time included?

You’ll be able to see the total access window for your booking, including how setup and reset fit around your client session. That will help you plan your diary and time between clients. Booking increments and the allocation of setup/reset time are still to be settled and will be clear before launch.

Will another trainer or customer use the room during my session?

No. The booked studio is yours for that session. Another booking won’t share the training room or its listed equipment, so you can focus on your client and your programming. Shared arrival or amenity areas will depend on the premises.

Working in the studio

Can the equipment support my programming?

That's the aim. The current specification is built around a commercial-grade all-in-one strength station rather than a basic rack.

It combines free barbell work, Smith lifts, six cable positions, dual weight stacks, pulldown and row stations, pull-ups, dips and landmine work, with free weights and conditioning equipment around it.

Can I coach two clients or run small groups?

One-to-one coaching is the core concept: your client, your programming and a private room. Two-to-one or small-group sessions may be possible, depending on the room and final capacity rules. We’ll confirm permitted session types and guest limits before bookings open.

Do I keep control of my coaching business and fees?

Yes. OWNSET provides the studio space; your coaching business, client relationship and programming remain yours. You set your coaching fee separately from studio hire. You bring your clients: employment, referrals and a supply of new clients aren’t part of the current offer. Any future trainer-discovery or referral feature would be a separate development.

Who handles cleaning and the reset between sessions?

You and your clients reset the room after use: wipe down equipment, return it to its place and leave on time. OWNSET’s operator cleaning and maintenance are separate from that between-session reset. Full responsibilities and the time allowed for reset will be explained before booking.

What about access problems, safety, cameras and client privacy?

Self-service access is intentional, so you can arrive with your client and coach without a staffed gym reception. Clear access support and emergency procedures are required before bookings open. We’ll explain the available help and disclose security-camera locations and privacy arrangements before you book; those details are still being developed.

What do Founding Trainer benefits include?

If the first OWNSET Sydney studio opens, eligible Founding Trainers receive a launch credit towards their first off-peak studio booking, a 7-day early booking window and an invitation to arrange one complimentary familiarisation visit. The credit covers part of the studio-hire price; you pay the balance. Its value will be announced before early booking opens. Registration does not guarantee trainer approval, a particular or recurring time, or a founding rate.
